What this site does

CheckThisCaller lets you look up a phone number and see how many times it has been publicly reported as spam or a robocall, sourced from the FTC's Do Not Call complaint data, the FCC's Consumer Complaints data, and reports submitted by our own users. We report on phone numbers, not people. We never attempt to resolve a number to a person's identity.

About the underlying data

Complaint data from the FTC and FCC is self-reported by consumers and is not independently verified by those agencies or by us. A report count reflects how many people submitted a complaint about a number. It is not a determination that any specific call was fraudulent or that the current holder of a number is responsible for past reports. Phone numbers are frequently reassigned; a number reported in the past may belong to someone unconnected to those reports today.

Information we collect

  • Account information: if you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication details necessary to sign you in.
  • Community reports: if you report a number, we store the number, the category of report, and a hashed (non-reversible) identifier derived from your IP address, used solely to rate-limit abuse.
  • Comments: if you post a comment on a number, we store the comment text and the same hashed IP identifier used for reports, again solely for abuse rate-limiting. Comments are public and anonymous by design; please don't include your name or anyone else's in a comment. Any comment can be flagged by any visitor, which removes it from public view immediately pending our review, and we can remove a comment permanently on request.
  • Lookups: we count how many times each number has been looked up on this site to show as a public trust signal. This is a raw count with no identifying information attached to it.
  • Payment information: if you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details ourselves.
  • Usage and advertising data: we use Google AdSense to show ads on the free tier, which may use cookies or device identifiers to personalize ads, subject to the choices described below.

Your privacy choices (California and other state residents)

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information for advertising purposes, including as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We honor opt-out preference signals, including the Global Privacy Control, where required. You can also adjust your ad personalization choices directly through the consent banner shown on this site.

Data retention

Reports naturally age out of prominence over time to reflect that recycled numbers change hands. If you believe a number is incorrectly associated with you, or that a specific report or comment should be reviewed or removed, you can contact us to request a review, or use the "Report" link shown next to any comment, which removes it from public view immediately pending our review.
